London City (airport code LCY) – a gem of an airport that mostly services European business hubs – is the closest airport to London. In fact, it’s the only airport that’s actually in central London, making it pretty much a hop, skip and jump to wherever you need to go. Getting from London City Airport to London is a breeze, whether you choose public transport or a taxi/Uber.
Located in East London, London City Airport doesn’t have a Tube station, but is on the DLR (Docklands Light Railway; an overground system connecting East London to the London Underground network) in zone 3. From here, trains depart every 8 to 15 minutes, with a journey time of 6 minutes to Canning Town, from where you can connect to the Jubilee Line on the Tube. Otherwise a taxi or Uber is a relatively affordable choice. Plus, it’s just 3 miles/5km to Canary Wharf, which makes London City Airport especially convenient for business travellers.
